Hawaii Getaway Part 1

Every year my dad’s side of the family goes on a vacation together, and this year, in celebration of some of my relatives’ anniversaries, we headed to Hawaii. Since James and I knew we were going to be with tons of people who all have different ideas of how to vacation, our main goal for this vacation was to sit back and go with the flow. And that flow sure changed a lot. One minute we thought we were going to relax and read poolside, and the next minute we are in the car heading to go kayaking through tunnels.
For the first part of our trip we were on Hawaii, the Big Island. There was lava covering a lot of the vegetation, so it wasn’t the prettiest island, but we still had fun going to a Luau (where I
learned attempted to hula…see above: I am trying to gracefully do a motion that in the end looks like I’m pulling a rope), exploring irrigation tunnels, zip lining through the forests, and playing in the waves.
During the Luau a Rowing competition happened next to us on the beach. I have never seen a Rowing competition in person; I have only seen it on TV during the Olympics, so it was really neat to see how the teammates worked in sync.
And one day after zip lining we found this hidden alcove near the ocean. We relaxed and took in the scenery…and watched the surfers try to catch the rough waves.
After four days of making fun memories, off we went to the island of Kauai. But that’s a tale for another day.
