that cafe with bullet holes in the wall

A few weekends ago when my sister-in-law was in town, we took her downtown to see all the quaint, small-town stores we have.  Our downtown has so much character and we always love exploring each nook and cranny.

There is this one place called B&B Cafe that has so much history and life to it, so of course we took her there for breakfast.  It is the oldest cafe in town, and it’s walls are filled with news articles, old-time photos, and bullet holes.  Yes, bullet holes.  Rumor is that a sheriff came in to arrest an outlaw and a gun fight ensued with the sheriff dying…or was it the outlaw?  Anyways, someone died and bullet holes were left in the walls.

Another neat quirk is that part of the cafe was once a butcher shop, which just adds more uniqueness to the place.  The walls are covered in beautiful bricks, that I always have to take a picture of!  I truly miss the old brick houses back in PA.  Everything is so new in Colorado, so rarely do I see brick anything.  I never realized how much I loved brick buildings until coming out West and being surrounded by metal and siding.

We also happened  upon a vinyl store that we had no idea existed!  We spent quite a lot of time sifting through the records, looking for pieces of gold.  James found a few records that we have now enjoyed listening to.  There is something about listening to a record verses a CD.  The sound is rich and  makes you want to get up and dance.  There have been quite a few times where I have walked around the corner in our apartment and seen James dancing to the music, only to find myself being swept up into his arms and spun around the room.  Though I seem to always step on his feet.  I might need to take a dancing class at some point…

I’ve always loved finding places that have a lot of character to them.  I’m one who wants to find those “hole in the wall” places, or places that are unique and have a fun atmosphere.  I love supporting those types of places instead of going to chain restaurants where it is the same food, same layout, same style.  And the food seems to always be great at little places.  There is this other little restaurant that we love that is in a refurbished house.  It is always busy, and the food is great!  And everything that they have can be made gluten-free!  BONUS!
